Introducing Mr Jack-O-Lantern

I took a whole bunch of photos of this candle this evening. Most of them came out blurry as I dont have a tripod for my little digital camera but these ones turned out ok.

I ended up on the ground, in the dark, lying on god knows what, in our backyard for the first one.

Spooky!

I do believe in Spooks!

I do, I do, I do believe in Spooks! So quoth the Cowardly Lion.

It's Halloween!

Such a shame we don't celebrate Halloween properly in Oz. I mean you can buy some Halloween stuff, it's just not quite as big over here as it is in the US. I like the dressing up part. And the free chocolate and lollies part!

I bought Mum a jack o lantern candle from Bath & Bodyworks when I was in Vegas which we are going to light tonight. That's our Halloween celebration. Whoop de do!

I went out with my friend and her son for a while this morning. We had a wander round the shops and had lunch. I finally found a copy of the November Creating Keepsakes magazine while we were out. Haven't looked through it yet, I'll do that later on this arvo.

Today's Two Peas Blog Challenge: Since it's Halloween and all.. let's talk horror movies.. do you like watching them? If you do, what are some of your faves? and why???

I HATE horror movies! I haven't seen too many because I'm a giant chicken. I avoid them at all costs. The only real horror movie I've seen is 'IT' based on the novel by Stephen King. That scary clown *shudder*. I saw it at a friend's birthday sleepover when I was about 16 or so. Luckily it didn't put me off clowns. Just horror movies.

Shake your rude box!

Today I was supposed to buy some new clothes for work. So I went to one of the large nearby shopping centers and somehow managed to not buy any clothes. I put a CD/Radio/Turntable sound system on layby at K-Mart, bought the latest Robbie Williams CD called "Rude Box"and also got his DVD "Live at Albert Hall", which I've seen before and is really good. He sings old Frank Sinatra type swing songs at Albert Hall in London. It was half price, so I couldn't resist.

I was going to do some proper clothes searching after I had lunch but I got all woozy so I thought it was best to come home. Oh well there's always tomorrow.

More shopping!

I've had such a busy day today. I've cleaned the bathroom, put on a load of washing, cleaned the kitchen, put on the dishwasher, cleaned up cat spew (such a fun job) and found out that I am 99% likely to be offered the job I want by the end of the week!! The only obstacle is some supervisor who is supposed to officially approve me being hired. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and I should be able to start work on Monday! Woohoo! I can't wait to have money again :)

Today mum and I went to Photo Continental, which is a great camera shop in Brisbane but also has a massive scrapbooking section. We picked up some papers and chipboard scrapbooks for my christmas presents that I'm making for a few of my relatives. Mum recently found 7 handwritten recipes that were my grandmothers' so I'm going to do some recipe albums as Christmas presents.

I got a 6x6 paper pad of the new Basic Grey Romani/Gypsy paper as well as a sheet of matching letter stickers.

I also got the 12x12 Basic Grey LilyKate collection pack which includes the papers, letter stickers and the coordinating tags.

I also got 3 of these Delish Designs Biscuit Board Albums, which I think will be perfect.

I must say that until the release of Basic Grey Oh Boy and Oh Girl, I've never really been a fan of their papers. I only bought 1 sheet of Blitzen paper when it was released. I wasn't even going to get any of the Romani or LilyKate lines but they totally suit the people I'm making the presents for.

I had a look at the Canon digital SLRs while I was at Photo Continental. They had a Canon 400D with a 18-55mm lense and a 55-300mm lense for a measly $1500! Not bad! I reeeeeeally want one. Unfortunately a 5th camera (that's right, I have 4) is not exactly a priority at the moment. Maybe in a few years time when I'm ready to go on another overseas trip.

Today's 2 Peas blogging challenge is - Think Christmas. Think about your Christmas tree, if you have one. How do you decorate it? what do you use???? Blog about it.

We actually don't have a Christmas tree at the moment. We threw ours out last year as it was getting a bit yuckky. So we have plenty of home made decorations and a few new pretty store bought ones, some pretty star shaped lights and a boatload of tinsel that's probably older than I am and an angel that's head keeps falling off...but no tree. Mum wants to get a fiber optic one, which would be cool, except I think she's thinking of getting a small one whereas I prefer big trees with lots of room for presents underneath. I do like all those prettily decorated trees in the shops but for some reason, our trees always end up with the same old stuff. We also have a singing tree that my dad gave me a few years ago that always gets a few laughs out of us. It's this tree that sings Jingle Bell Rock and has big eyes that light up and it's just the funniest thing. It's usually our Christmas table center piece because it's so much fun to watch.

Sparkly!

I don’t often feel really happy with my layouts, but I’m pretty proud of this one. It’s about a lounge that I went to in Vegas called the Peppermill. I wanted it to look retro and blingy to emphasise the 1970s feel of the interior lounge photo. The scan cut off the top and bottom parts, so the ribbon is actually on straight!

The pink Retro letter stickers in the title are Arctic Frog, I don’t know who made the sparkly silver Vegas letter stickers, I got the ribbon in New York. The stars, the paperclip with pink flower sticker and rhinestone circles on the pink photo corner are from various Jenni Bowlin kits and the other rhinestones were donated by my mother :) The retro line I bought at Blue Bazaar and is made by Magistical Memories. I painted it silver. The journalling is hidden behind the drink picture like so -

And below is a card I made yesterday for my cousin's boyfriend. The letter stickers are Making Memories Tiny Alphas. I love them, I need to get some more. The black line is actually navy ribbon.

Today's Two Peas blog challenge is - If you could only get one thing for Christmas, scrapbooking related, what would it be???

Dear Santa, Please can I have a Digital SLR. Preferrably Canon and preferrably with a lense or two. I've been a very good girl this year and I promise to be a good girl next year if it appears under my Christmas tree. Love Lesley.

It's the weekend!

Today's been a bit of a waste as I went to my mate's place last night and didn't get home til late so today I was knackered today. She had an Undercover ware party and several of us ended up staying for quite a while afterwards which was a lot of fun. Yes, I succumbed and bought a nice top that would be good for clubbing or something like that.

I watched a couple of dvds - In Her Shoes, which was ok and The Island which was a bit tense and a tad too drawn out for my liking. I really only hired it so I could watch Ewan McGregor. Yum!

I managed to do this layout this evening. I'm quite happy with it and I got to use one of my new Autumn Leaves stamps. I also used Basic Grey Urban Coture patterned paper, Heidi Swapp chipboard letters for the title and two ribbons. The photo's not all that great but I was rather excited to see some sailors in New York and I had to scrap it! If you couldn't tell, I'm a simple scrapper! Less is more :)

The other thrill of my day was downloading the new video clip by Robbie Williams called Love Light on iTunes. His new CD appears in store sometime this week so I'll be scouring the music stores for that on Monday. And here's a piccie of him just because he's hot and I love him :)

Happiness is...

Happiness is a getting lots of fun stuff in the mail!

The postie brought me lots of great scrapping goodness today! Two idea books - the new Designing with Color by Autumn Leaves and Ali Edwards's A Designer's Eye with Patterned Paper. Hopefully these two new books will inspire me to create fabulous pages. And if not, at least I have something new to read!!

I also got three packs of Heidi Swapp chipboard letters in pink, blue and ledger, two different types of Heidi journaling spots - the black circles and the days of the week (I could stick em on my underpants to make days of the week underpants really cheaply!) I also got some pretty new Autumn Leaves papers and some shooting star chipboard shapes.

Onto other fascinating news, I had yet another job interview today. I'm feeling pretty good about it and I really hope they offer me the position as it's good money. I have an interview at another company tomorrow, and from what I've hard it seems like it would be a nice place to work, so hopefully by the end of this week someone will actually offer me a job!

I thought I'd have a go at today's Blog challenge on Two Peas. Today's challenge is - The Holidays are coming. Blog about the things about the holidays you are looking forward to.... no matter what they are!

Well, I love Christmas. I love the decorated trees, the presents, the fact that I usually have two weeks off work so I can sleep in and do whatever the hell I feel like doing, the yummy food, Christmas carols and how everyone is so much happier at that time of year. I'd love to be able to celebrate Halloween like they do in the US. I love the whole dressing up and decorating part of it. The giving out chocolate part's not so bad either! :)

A visit from Postman Pat!

Yay! The first of the three online orders I placed last week has arrived! All scrapbooking stuff. I got a bunch of 7 Gypsies tags, the Autumn Leaves clear journalling stamps and 4 retro line chipboard thingys!

I've got a layout in mind for the retro lines. I bought 4 because I wasn't sure what colour I wanted to paint it. And you never know when you'll need a chipboard retro line! hehe :)

I can't wait to try out the journalling stamps. I'll have to wait til the weekend as I have another layout in mind using a photo from my recent New York trip and I haven't had any of the photos I took printed yet.

Hopefully the postman will be bringing the rest of my goodies tomorrow.

Banners...

I'm so proud of myself, I actually managed to upload my new banner!! Only took about an hour or so!

Today's been a very lazy day. The kind of day I like best. I have actually left the house today, and also managed to spend money, which wasn't in the plan. I went to a home Body Shop party', hosted by a very good friend of mine. I didn't know they had those, so there you go, learn something new every day!! I like Body Shop stuff but it's so expensive I don't often buy anything from them. But today I succumbed and ordered a bath pillow and some Golden Apple Shimmer Lotion, which I dont think is available in store yet. The apple lotion really smells of apples and has golden shimmery stuff in it which looks funky. I'm really looking forward to trying out the bath pillow. It's a terry towling fabric cylindrical pillow that hangs off some more towling that has suction cups on the back.

Me in the sublime flesh!

Welcome to my Splendiferously Sublime blog. I'm just popping a picture of myself here so I can use it for my profile. It's a self-portait I took on my 25th birthday in the kitchen of the house I was living in at the time, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In case you were wondering, I named my blog Splendiferously Sublime because I like both those words and they make it sound like my life is both splendiferous and sublime. I can only dream...!!!
